Wherever the Weeds Are
Borders & Beds
Hand-weeded properly: fork and trowel, roots out, working around your plants, not through them. Finished with a tidy edge so the bed looks cared-for, not just less weedy.
Gravel Drives & Paths
Weeds through gravel are usually growing in the silt on top, not up through the membrane. Hoed or pulled, membrane checked, and a treatment where it makes sense to slow the return.
Driveways & Patios
Weeds between block paving and slabs cleared at the root. Pair it with adriveway cleanand re-sand and they're far slower to come back.
Brambles & Overgrown Corners
The corner of the garden you stopped looking at. Brambles cut back and dug out, nettles cleared, waste taken away, and advice on keeping it clear.
Why I Weed by Hand
Plenty of "gardeners" strim weeds flat and call it done. It looks tidy for a fortnight, then everything grows straight back from the root, often thicker than before. Strimming is a haircut, not a fix.
Hand-weeding gets the root out. Dandelions, docks, thistles, bindweed: they only stay gone when the root comes with them. It takes longer, and that's exactly why it works. On big or recurring patches, I'll also talk to you about mulching: a proper layer of bark or compost smothers new weed seedlings, feeds the soil and halves the weeding next year.
Staying on Top of It Through the Year
Spring (Mar-May)
The big push. First weeds of the year out before they seed, borders edged, mulch down. Get this right and summer is easy.
Summer (Jun-Aug)
Little and often: monthly or fortnightly visits keep on top of growth while it's small. Cheap and quick at this stage.
Autumn (Sep-Nov)
Final clear-out before winter, dead growth cut back, beds mulched. The garden goes into winter tidy and comes out of it ahead.
Bundle weeding in with the fortnightly lawn visits and the whole garden just stays done.

Questions About Weeding
Do you use weedkiller?
Only where it makes sense, gravel drives and paths mainly. In borders I hand-weed properly, getting the roots out, because that's what actually works near your plants. Any treatment I use is pet-aware and I'll always tell you what I've used and where.
The weeds keep coming back. Why?
Usually because they've been strimmed or pulled at the surface, leaving the root in. Dandelions, docks and bindweed all regrow from a bit of root. I weed by hand with the root out, and for problem areas I'll advise on mulching to stop them re-seeding.
Can you keep on top of it regularly?
Yes, that's the smart way. A monthly or fortnightly weeding visit through the season keeps borders clean all year and costs far less than a big clearance every summer.
Do you clear brambles and overgrown areas?
Yes, bramble clearance, overgrown corners and neglected beds are regular jobs. Cut back, roots dug out where possible, everything taken away.
